The EU Ecolabel is the European Union’s official environmental label for accommodation providers. It is awarded to hotels that meet high standards of environmental and resource protection—standards that are scientifically sound, uniform across Europe, and independently verified.
The certification evaluates the entire operation: energy and water consumption, waste management, procurement, cleaning, internal processes, and employee training. It is not about individual measures, but rather a comprehensive sustainability approach.
We meet these rigorous criteria, making us one of the few certified hotels in Germany. For us, the EU Ecolabel is both a validation and an incentive: responsibility doesn’t end with an idea—it begins with our daily actions.

Our Environmental and Sustainability Policy
The food hotel Neuwied is committed to the responsible and sustainable use of resources. In our kitchen, we use only the freshest, highest-quality ingredients—preferably sourced locally from small family farms in Neuwied, the Eifel, and the Westerwald.
Even when it comes to products sourced from outside the region, we pay close attention to their origin and supply chain. Short transport routes and fair trade practices are a must for us—only then do international products make their way into our kitchen.
Through these conscious efforts, we reduce our environmental footprint and offer our guests a stay that combines enjoyment with environmental awareness.

Energy & Climate
To protect our environment and conserve resources, we use modern, energy-efficient technologies at the food hotel.
LED lighting, automatically controlled heating and cooling systems, and regular monitoring of our energy consumption help us continuously reduce our CO₂ emissions. In addition, we use electricity from renewable energy sources—including solar energy generated by our own photovoltaic system.
Our guests also play their part: through specific reminders, we encourage mindful and efficient energy use in the hotel’s daily operations.
Water
Water is a precious resource—that’s why we at the food hotel make sure to use it thoughtfully and sparingly.
Our guest rooms and common areas are equipped with modern water-saving faucets and showerheads. The restrooms and urinals also feature efficient water-saving technology.
In addition, we regularly inspect all water-carrying pipes and systems to detect and repair potential leaks at an early stage. In this way, we actively contribute to the conservation of resources.
Waste Reduction & Recycling
Waste that isn’t created in the first place is the best way to help protect the environment. That’s why, at food hotel, we avoid using disposable products and plastic whenever possible.
Unavoidable waste is consistently sorted and recycled. Our suppliers also play their part by using eco-friendly packaging, reusable systems, and a supply chain that conserves resources as much as possible.
This creates a well-designed recycling system—from purchasing to disposal.
Sustainable Procurement
Our kitchen is committed to quality, local sourcing, and sustainability. We prefer to work with local suppliers who provide us with fresh, seasonal ingredients.
Fair-trade goods such as coffee, tea, and other products are an integral part of our product range—as a symbol of global justice and sustainable consumption.
Starting in 2026, our meals will be prepared by the food akademie’s certified organic kitchen and delivered to the food hotel.
This partnership allows us to implement enhanced sustainability standards and reduce carbon emissions from transportation in an even more targeted way—without compromising on freshness and quality.
In this way, we not only boost regional economic growth but also set an example for responsible dining.
Guest Engagement
Sustainability thrives on participation—and our guests can play an active role in it.
Through our partner WingsCoin, we offer you the opportunity to make your stay even more eco-friendly:
If you opt out of daily room cleaning, you’ll receive a coin worth €2.50 as a voucher for our bistro bildungslücke. At the same time, we donate €1 to WingsCoin, an organization that raises awareness among children and young people in schools about environmental and future-oriented issues and motivates them to take action themselves.
In addition, at food hotel Neuwied, we aim to use the proceeds from unused coins to support the preservation of regional forests and are planning our own “food forest”
This way, we work together to conserve resources such as water, energy, and cleaning supplies—while also supporting education and nature conservation in our region.

Employees
Our employees are a central part of our sustainability strategy. Twice a year, they participate in training sessions on topics such as environmental protection, resource conservation, and sustainable practices in day-to-day hotel operations.
In addition, we actively encourage our team members to come up with their own ideas and initiatives—because many sustainable improvements originate directly on the job. Mutual respect, fairness, and responsibility form the foundation of our corporate culture.
Another way we promote sustainability in practice is by offering our employees free rentals of e-bikes and e-scooters. In this way, we not only support eco-friendly mobility, but also promote health and flexibility in everyday life.
Monitoring & Improvement
Sustainability is not a static state but an ongoing process. That is why we regularly review our progress in the areas of energy, water, waste, and procurement.
Annual reviews help us make progress transparent and identify opportunities for improvement at an early stage. If deviations occur or new challenges arise, we respond with targeted measures—to continuously refine our sustainability strategy and ensure its long-term effectiveness.

The Food Hotel is an ideal starting point for excursions to the Rhine, Moselle and Lahn. It is also centrally located for tours to Bonn and Cologne. In this respect, it is just as suitable for business travelers as for vacationers.

The Food Hotel is a modern business hotel, where almost exclusively business travelers are accommodated during the week. The location is very good due to the proximity to the center, and the train station is also in the immediate vicinity. The rooms are modern and functionally furnished.
